Extract pages

This tool needs JavaScript because it processes the PDF in your browser rather than on a server. The instructions and FAQ below are readable as they are.

Take just the pages you need out of one PDF and save them as a new file. Page numbers start at 1, and several groups can be separated by commas.

The order you type is the order you get. Typing 5,1 puts page 5 first and page 1 second.

How to use it

  1. Pick one PDF. The page thumbnails and the total page count appear.
  2. Type something like 1,3-5 in the “Pages to extract” box. Clicking a thumbnail also adds or removes that number.
  3. Selected pages get an order badge. If a number is wrong, the message says exactly which part is wrong.
  4. Press “Download the new PDF” to save a file containing only those pages.

Examples

  • 1,3-5

Page 1, then pages 3 to 5 — four pages, in that order.

  • 7

    A single-page PDF containing page 7.

  • 5,1

The result is page 5 followed by page 1. Numbers are not sorted; the typed order wins.

  • 1-3,2 is an error

Page 2 would appear twice, so the message names the repeated page and the export stops. If you deliberately want a page twice, use the merge tool.

Questions

Does page 1 mean the cover?

Numbering follows the physical order of pages in the file, starting at 1. Even if the printed page numbers inside the document start at 3, the first sheet is page 1. It matches the badge on the thumbnail.

Can I type a descending range like 10-7?

No, that is reported as an error. Type the order you want instead — 10,9,8,7 — and it is honoured exactly.

What if I type a page that does not exist?

The message gives the document’s page count and names the number that was out of range, and the loaded document is left alone. Fix the number and press the button again.

Does extracting remove those pages from the original?

No. The original file is never modified; a separate new PDF is created. To remove pages from a document, use the organize tool.
