Percentage Calculator

한국어

What percentage of the whole is the part?

The portion you want to measure.
Must not be 0 — nothing can be divided by zero.

Result

Enter a part value and a whole value to see the share.

How it is calculated

share (%) = part ÷ whole × 100
N% of a value = value × N ÷ 100
percentage change (%) = (ending − starting) ÷ |starting| × 100
  • A whole value of 0 has no share, so the calculator stops and explains instead of guessing.
  • Percentage change divides by the absolute value of the starting number. That is why −50 changing to −25 reads as "+50%": the loss has halved.
  • Displayed numbers are rounded to four decimal places; the unrounded value is what carries into any further arithmetic.
  • A trailing 0.5 always rounds away from zero, so 2.675 becomes 2.68.
  • Numbers containing thousands separators, such as 1,234, are accepted as typed.
  • Anything that is not a plain number — letters, symbols, or scientific notation such as 1e5 — is rejected with a message rather than silently treated as 0.

Examples

1. Progress towards a savings goal

Saving 37,500 towards a goal of 250,000 gives 37,500 ÷ 250,000 × 100 = 15%. The remaining 212,500 is 85%.

2. Adding a tip or a fee

15% of 32,000 is 32,000 × 0.15 = 4,800. Added on that is 36,800; taken off it is 27,200.

3. A subscription price rise

A monthly fee going from 8,000 to 9,900 is (9,900 − 8,000) ÷ 8,000 × 100 = 23.75% higher.

4. Shares above 100%

Hitting 250 against a target of 200 is 125%. Shares are not capped at 100%.

A common mix-up

Percent (%) and percentage points (pp) are different. An interest rate moving from 3% to 4% has risen by 1 percentage point, which is a 33.33% increase. The "Percentage change" tab calculates the second one.
